Once again, America showed the world Her genius:
Once the results were announced by CNN that Barack Obama became President-Elect, my attention was shifted to watch how Senator John McCain would respond. Beyond my expectation, he stood and demonstrated the most civil and honorable concession. I was almost wondered while watching live the extreme maturity of Americans democracy, which I used to admire from remote. His call for unity once Americans bought the theme of Barack Obama- change- demonstrated the decency of Americans to unity themselves regardless of differences for the sake of common good. What an exemplary democracy!!!
While I was in that mood of appreciation, I went well beyond this eventful moment to think about the foundation of this nation. This incident reminded me how the vision of the Founding Fathers, who founded one of the greatest nations on the cradle of noble principle: God-given inalienable rights of individuals, once again renewed and proven its strength and the immortality of that value. For that matter its impact transcends national boundaries and that is why millions are dreaming to come to America with the hope of enjoying this God-given right.
Definitely, the presidency of the first Africa-American is electrifying to the world, as Former Secretary of State General Colin Powell said. All over the world, reactions are pouring out and the President-Elect is receiving congratulations. Here is a statement from the congratulatory remark taken from South Africa's former president, Nelson Mandela: "Your victory has demonstrated that no person anywhere in the world should not dare to dream of wanting to change the world for a better place," French President Nicolas Sarkozy in his congratulations letter to Obama said, "At a time when we have to confront immense challenges together, your election raises great hopes in France, in Europe and in the rest of the world,"
This occasion also reminded me of how America birthed, nurtured, and crowned great leaders that have been serving not just America but the world. In Her relatively infant history, USA has been playing critical roles in those defining moments humanity faced that include major World Wars and ideological battles that inflicted world citizens. I was watching the acceptance speech of President-Elect Barack Obama and noticed that America once again birthed and offered another inspirational leader and added to the list of leaders like Abraham Lincoln, John F. Kennedy, Franklin D. Roosevelt, and Ronald Regan.
Beyond its historic impact and regardless of whether you agree with his personal and/or party ideologies, President-Elect Barack Obama came at the right moment when not only America but also the world needed direction. Great leaders have been born in the midst of crisis and we are experiencing one right now and it takes visionary, wise, and inclusive leadership, which Barack Obama demonstrated throughout his campaign.
Great crisis demanded the insight, inspiration, and gut of great leaders who rescued humanity from those grave challenges. Though it is too early to predict, we will come out strong from the crisis we are in and the presidency of Barack Obama came at the right time for the US to play Her leadership role at the global scale in winning the fight against terror, environmental degradation, HIV/AIDS, and more. Once again, America showed the world Her genius.
God Bless America!!!
