Living by Faith, not by Sight!- Part I
In the world where the motto is "seeing is believing", we are venturing to dedicate this month’s inspirational word "Living by Faith, not by Sight!" There is no point to argue that sight still matters in our every day life. The effort is not to undermine its values but to add-value! The advertising world knows and exploits sight that manipulates consumers and dictates their spending. So, this is not to encourage anyone to fool around sight. It is important but at the same time dangerous unless we know its limits and the risks it poses.
Jesus told us both the significant role sight could play and its big function in sinning. Jesus said, "The eye is the lamp of your body; when your eye is clear, your whole body also is full of light; but when it is bad, your body also is full of darkness." (Luke 11: 34). In another place, He said, "If your eye offends you, pluck it out" (Matthews 5:29). Sight has all kinds of positive and negative powers, and we are the one to harness its advantages for our benefits and manage the risks and limitations it poses.
The perception humanity has had about sight totally altered and we were challenged to redefine the role of sight when Helen Keller showed up in this planet without sight but impacted her contemporaries and beyond. For Helen, it is about vision not sight that matters for success and fulfillment. She once said, "The most pathetic person in the world is someone who has sight, but has no vision." This shows us that, as far as someone has no vision, it is no much use to get decorated with two or one beautiful eyes. It may not be comfortable, but someone like Helen can still have vision and get fulfilled without having sight. I can see the danger of sight in depriving someone from desperately looking for vision. Seeing doesn’t mean envisioning! Likewise, having sight may not mean that you don't stumble in your faith walk. If we are cheated that sight plays greater role to define who we are and what we can have, then it becomes a stumbling block to enjoy the benefits of life filled with faith and miracles. Pushing the button further to despise sight, we are going to venture to magnify on how we should live by faith, not by sight.
Withstanding the fact that sight has undeniable virtues in helping us interface with the physical world and its key role in sending signals to the brain to interpret our surrounding. Recognizing the fact that sight has tremendous power to risk our sanity and needs to be guarded. Understanding the fact that sight is endowed with manipulative ability to defile our spending and cause more pains unless we manage it. Sight remains less important compared to faith in our quest to succeed in life whether we are believers or not. Believe me, it is not only the faith community that understood the importance of by-passing the limitations of sight to enjoy life to its fullness.
The scientific community despised the eye and discovered Microscopes to observe very tinny matters which couldn’t be observed by mere eye. Astronomers mocked on sight and came up with telescope to appreciate what is going on in the outer space as the eye needed helper. Medical personnel again preferred to use the ear with the aide of stethoscope in order to ‘see’ heartbeats. The personal development personnel take off the negative role of sight by training individuals to ignore their current state and possessions but rather visualize what they desire. Million enjoyed health, wealth, self confidence, and more with such exercises that are, in simple term, aide to the eye so that the person taps into his new world that didn't not existing in the natural and according to sight. The list could continue.
The question to the faith world is that could we also maximize the use of faith to exploit and be in command to enjoy what is ours in the spiritual realm than captivated by sight? Should we despise the limitations sight posed against what we could be and have by entering into living by faith than sight? What is around us, as we perceive it via sight, couldn't define us and who we would be! The value tagged on us should be based on how much faith we have well beyond the visible world. If we are serious about maximizing our living on earth, it is Faith which is the currency to trade and enjoy what is available in the spiritual realm that cannot be downloaded via sight. This month will be used to inspire us and know more about walking by faith. In the coming weeks, we will venture into appreciating the importance of faith, the challenges, and more.
