Rediscoverying the role of attitudes, Part II
In our previous session, we discussed the importance of having action to alter our attitude to benefit from positive attitude. Accordingly, we shared with you one of our sisters personal experience on how she dealt with herself to correct her unpleasant attitude towards herself to align with what God thinks of her.
As you know, we are humans and there are many insufficiencies if we depend on ourselves. Dr. Francis Schaeffer, in his Christian Manifesto said, "...he (man), being finite, limited, very faulty in his observation of many things, yet nevertheless, has no possible source of knowledge except what man, beginning from himself, can find out from his own observation." We need to depend on the Holy Spirit, Who can dig deep into our spirit and connect us to God and help us figure out unproductive attitudes and substitute them with the right ones.
As we discussed last time, we must first acknowledge that we need to correct our attitudes and depend on the Holy Spirit in searching those faulty attitudes lurked within us but not aligned with God’s Word. In our today’s discussion, we push a little bit and address the issue of renewing our mind to bring lasting attitudinal change. As we all know, it looks like some people get saved through the finished work of Christ but not spending much time to read the Word of God and renew their mind (Romans 12:2) and develop attitude as per God's Word. But rather, they are conformed to the world and live as per what the world, the devil, and media say, which in most cases are not aligned with scriptures and don't help much to have positive attitudes.
Our first line prescription to develop positive attitudes towards life’s most important issues comes through reading the Word of God and get transformed in our mind which can change the way we think and process thoughts. On top of the desperate help we need from the Holy Spirit, we need also to have right association and fellowship with others. We should avoid dream stealers, belittling guys, and those big complainers. We need to folk around with inspirational, optimistic, and constructive people. Get ride of those who are indulged with talking unworthy and destructive talks.
If you can, rather have friends who play the vacuum-cleaner role in your life, who even demand out of you to speak, think, and say right. These people are not only optimistic and positive thinkers; they will suck negative and pessimistic thoughts and attitudes out of you. If you can, you should consciously pay such guys who play this awesome role
By the way, you remember how Jesus was sucking fears, doubts, and worry out of His followers. Not only He demonstrated and set example on how they should have the right attitude about God and the things of God, He went after their deep down corrupted attitudes and sucked them off.
Dear friends, we are not just called to stop at salivation stage or work hard to maintain positive attitude for ourselves. Well beyond that, we should develop faith and confidence that provokes the unseen world, stretches the Hands of God, and bring His mighty forces into play. We should have tapped into the benefits of having and mobilizing the forces that demand faith and positive attitudes. Well beyond ourselves, we should suck off unworthy attitudes from others. Let's reach out to others and heal the wounds generated through wrong attitudes and pains.....
